K2, Designer Drugs and Episode 214 of the MedicCast

Poison centers have been alerted about patients being seen in emergency departments after smoking synthetic marijuana called K2. This substance is added with contaminants that cause psychotropic effects but users also experiencing agitation, tachycardia, hypertension and vomiting. In this week's episode of the MedicCast, the podmedic in an interview with tox specialist Lisa Booze, talks about K2 and other synthetic drugs and provide tips for paramedics and EMTs in the emergency management and assessment for such cases. Since the contaminants may not always alter the appearance or the taste, it is difficult for the paramedics or even the user to identify what chemicals have been added.
