Pulmonary Embolism for EMS in Episode 195 of the MedicCast

The MedicCast

About half the people who have pulmonary embolism do not show any symptoms, but clinical manifestations include shortness of breath, chest pain or coughing up blood. This condition can not be readily identified without diagnostic tests. In the prehospital setting, the best way to address PE would be respiratory management, initiation of an IV line and immediate transportation to a health facility. This week on the MedicCast, Jamie Davis, the podmedic, provides EMS providers tips on how to assess for PE as well as things paramedics can do for patients with PE in the mergency setting. The show also offers EMS news and links to this tip for a better review and future reference.
